Silent Zumba: sounds like an oxymoron. But it's a fun, surreal way to get that heart rate pumping.
Tonight one of my favorite Zumba instructors, Shawnta' Jackson from Z Spot LV, teaches a Silent Zumba class on the lawn at Downtown Summerlin. Here's how it works:
Once you sign up, the folks will give you a headset. (They glow in the dark. How 1960s!) You hear the music and the instructions through your headset. Shawnta' teaches as much hip hop as Zumba. And her moves are doable for someone like me with gringo hips.
The cost: Z Spot members pay $10. Summerlin residents just $15. Everyone else pays $20. And I love this part: This event is a fund raiser for Communities in Schools in Nevada.
The best part: You can look up at the sky and the stars. Can't do that at the gym!
