Most visitors equate living in Las Vegas with the Las Vegas Strip -- with all its craziness, neon and glitter.
But we locals know better. Have a boat? Yes, Las Vegas is a desert, but Lake Mead is less than an hour away. And if you love to hike, Las Vegas (surprisingly) is the place for you. Clark County has two spots: Both Lake Mead National Recreational Area , where they are slot canyons, and Red Rock Canyon National Conservation Area.
Red Rock Canyon is a mini-Grand Canyon. Hike to the top of some of the trails and you have a jetliner view of the Strip (without boarding a plane!)
Red Rock Canyon is less than 15 minutes from Summerlin but is still just 45 minutes from deepest Henderson. It's our local treasure; 2.4 million people visited in 2015.
The Bureau of Land Management (BLM) selected Red Rock Canyon as part of its Earth Day program, which showcases the 30 million acres of designated monuments, trails, rivers and wilderness areas. Red Rock comprises almost 200,000 of 30 million those acres.
The BLM program produced a poster featuring two mountain bikers cruising through the desert with those trademark red cliffs in the background. The design mirrors the classic National Park posters the WPA produced during the Great Depression. (My parents said the Great Depressions wasn't so great, but I digress.) The posters have a cool Art Deco feel.
The posters will be free...when the BLM does a printing down the road. Until then, enjoy In Real Life (IRL)!
Here's a great reward for this horrible election season. If you voted,
"Working with eXp Realty was a pleasure. When we started, we had no idea what we wanted, but our buyer agent helps us figure out the pros and cons of all our options. Our agent went the extra mile willing to put in the extra effort to answer our questions, to make sure we were happy with our decisions, and educated about the market and local area."
